Poker is a card game in which players act without knowing the cards that their opponents hold. They have chips (representing money) that they can use to bet on their own hand or to bluff against other players\u2019 hands. The player who has the best 5 card hand wins the \u201cpot,\u201d which is all the money bet during a deal.<\/p>\n
The standard poker pack has 52 cards, ranked from highest to lowest in the following order: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, and 3. Some variant games may also include jokers or other wild cards.<\/p>\n
Before any cards are dealt, the player to the left of the button (in some variants called the “button” or “dealer”) has the right and obligation to place a small blind bet. The player to his left then has the same obligation to place a big blind bet. These bets are forced, and help to make the game more interesting.<\/p>\n
In a regular game of poker, a player must have a qualifying hand to raise when it is his turn to act. If he has no qualifying hand, he can pass his turn to act, or check. During the course of a game, players can raise and call each other\u2019s bets, or fold.<\/p>\n
