Poker is a card game of skill and chance. It teaches players to make decisions on incomplete information, and develops a wide range of cognitive skills that can help in other aspects of life. It also provides an enjoyable pastime and a social outlet, as well as a way to relieve stress.<\/p>\n
Earlier vying games included Belle, Flux & Trente-un (French, 17th \u2013 18th centuries), Post & Pair (English and American, late 18th \u2013 early 19th centuries), Brelan (French, mid – to late 19th century), and Bouillotte (French, later 20th century). These were often played with the same rules as poker but with different scoring systems.<\/p>\n
The defining feature of the game is that all players are dealt winning and losing hands, which are subsequently compared against each other. The aim is to extract as much value as possible from the winning hands, and minimise losses from the losing ones. This is known as the risk-vs-reward concept, or MinMax.<\/p>\n
