Whether you are new to poker or you are a seasoned poker player, it pays to get the basics right before you play. There are hundreds of variations to the game. It can be played with any number of players, but the ideal number is around eight or nine.<\/p>\n
The game is played with a standard pack of 52 cards. The cards are ranked from Ace through Jack. Players are allowed to shuffle their own cards, but the dealer has the last right to do so. The dealer is the player to act first after being dealt the jack.<\/p>\n
Poker players use their cards to create a hand that will be the best possible. The goal is to get as many chips from other players as possible. The player who has the highest hand wins the pot.<\/p>\n
The game starts with the first player to the left of the button. In most games, this player will put in a blind bet before the cards are dealt. In some games, the player to the left of the big blind will post a small blind.<\/p>\n
Each player receives one card facedown. The first round of betting is done in clockwise order. After the fourth betting interval, the hole cards are shown. Then, all players are permitted to make a call or a raise. If there is no call, the betting stops. The remaining players fold.<\/p>\n
