Poker is a betting card game where players compete to create the best possible hand using only the cards they have. It is one of the most popular games in the world and is played throughout the globe in private homes, casinos, poker clubs and over the Internet.<\/p>\n
A typical game of poker is played with a standard 52-card deck and chips, which represent money. The dealer assigns values to the chips prior to the start of the game and exchanges cash from the players for the appropriate valued chips.<\/p>\n
Depending on the rules of the variant being played, some or all of the players may be required to place an initial amount of money into the pot before the cards are dealt (forced bets). These bets are called antes, blinds and bring-ins and come in different forms.<\/p>\n
In each deal, a player receives one card face down and one card face up. Then there are a series of betting intervals, followed by a showdown in which the hole cards are shown.<\/p>\n
The highest natural poker hand is five of a kind (five cards in order). A straight flush beats any four of a kind, and threes of a kind or higher break ties.<\/p>\n
