In a poker game, players place an ante, or small bet, in a pot. Players then receive their cards, and must reveal their hands. The goal of the game is to have the highest ranked hand and win by betting until all players have dropped out. The player with the highest-ranking hand wins all of the money bet on the hand. In the event of a draw, the pot is divided among the players equally.<\/p>\n
While betting is done in several phases of the game, in general, the game is played until one player has made all his bets. A player can raise or fold during each betting round, but the stakes are agreed upon at the beginning of the game. After three or four raises, a player is allowed to double his stake. After four raises, however, the stakes are too large and he or she will be forced out because of the lack of funds.<\/p>\n
In a poker game, there are anywhere from two to seven players. The ideal number is six to eight players. The pot is the sum of the bets from all players in one deal. To win the pot, a player must have the highest-ranking poker hand and make a bet that no other player calls. In addition, the game is based on probability.
