Poker is a card game that has millions of fans. Its popularity stems from a few key factors. First, it is an incredibly social activity. Players interact with each other during the game and make bets based on their perceived strength of their hand. They also bluff to confuse their opponents. The goal is to get your opponent to believe you have a strong hand, so that they call or raise your bets.

Each player starts with two cards that are hidden from other players (these are called a player’s hole or pocket). Three more cards are then dealt face up on the table in front of all players. These are known as the community cards. Each player aims to make a five card “hand” using their own two cards and the five community cards. You can then bet against your opponents and win the pot if they fold or have a weak hand.

A good hand is one with a pair of matching cards. A flush is 5 cards of consecutive rank, all from the same suit. A straight is 5 cards in order but from different suits. High card breaks ties.
